Love the Colors

Here's my contribution to the DSO Color Challenge, hosted by KimB. Hope you can find good uses for it. I'd love to see anything you prepare! This set of colors Kim selected are so cheery, and a nice transition from summer to fall here in the Northern Hemisphere.

New Mini-Kit

June's Journey ... KimB's color challenge on DSO!

Kim chose an interesting blend of colors this time, in light of the fact that Father's Day is this month. I'm calling it "June's Journey," because June was always a special month that I shared with my Dad ... and I still miss him. The word "journey" as you see it in the preview is also a word art that is included.

Abundance

I had only scant moments of time over the past month to work on KimB's DSO ALWAYS fun color challenge for April so it's really not the best of work. However, it was a work of intent, and a no-brainer as to what I was going to call it.

At a time when we're so often reminded about how many people around the world are suffering from hunger and lack of health care, I'm ashamed to step back and look back at the abundance we have around us. Yet, I'm also infinitely grateful for God's promises to provide. Those seem like contradictory thoughts, but it's a reminder to me to pray for others and look for ways to do my part to help others.

So, here's my mini-kit: MMDC April Abundance 2008.

Hope you can use it with joy this spring.

Today's Gifts

Just dropping in to post the MMDC March Fabulously Add-On, to the DSO March Color Challenge kit I posted on my blog on February 29. KimB's color choices for this month are, as always, spot-on, and terrific for layouts as winter transitions into spring here in Texas. [We had snow yesterday, and it's in the high 60s today. Rainy and cold tomorrow. That's typical for March, except for the snow bit!]

[I could have made that sentence more awkward, but I didn't. :) ]

Kim Broedelet's excellent Grab Bag No. 7 came in helpful for the overlays used in this Add-on, plus the stitched flower. It's still on sale at DSO for a few more days; what a deal! I also used an Atomic Cupcake action for one of the two word arts in this little kit.

I did a quick layout of my niece and her middle son as they shared a quiet moment. I love the intimacy of these parent/child moments, don't you? It helps when they're so photogenic, too!!! Obviously, I used this add-on kit to prepare the layout.

Finally, today's word art is here, too. Sorry that I'm a little late in posting it, but .... well, it just IS! I loved this quotation, too, and hope you do as well.

Take time to do something kind for someone today. Random Acts of Kindness are some of the best currency around ... and one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

Blessings,

Melanie

Better Than Fabulous

The two ladies in this layout have been friends since 1931 during their University days. I consider them National Treasures, and only wish that everyone had the chance to know them. What presents they have been ... what presence they have shown. Remarkable. Truly remarkable. We can learn so much from those who have paved the way.

This layout was made with the March Fabulously mini-kit I made for the DSO Color Challenge, hosted by the fabulous KimB. I've posted the download links below if you're interested in using the kit yourself..

Have a great weekend.

Sassy February

Just a new mini-kit made in reponse to KimB's oh-so-fun-as-usual color challenge in the DSO forum. You should try it sometime, if you haven't already!

Using this Sassy February mini-kit, I've also included a layout made of one of my sisters, during a glamour shoot we were doing just for fun at my house a few months ago.

I need to enter more of the challenges presented by all the different digi-sites ... they're really fun and help you spread your wings a bit.

I forgot to mention that the shadows on the preview are merely to distinguish elements, and not on the .png files themselves.

Hope you find this useful in some way.

Until later,
Melanie

BIG BROTHERS Kit

My great-nephews are all at adorable stages right now. Three of them are brothers, and their Mom allows me to take their photos whenever the mood strikes. And it strikes often!!!

The colors in the photograph shown in the layout shown here was the inspiration for my newest kit, Big Brothers. I'll always remember the precious expressions on the faces of the older two boys as they study their new little brother. With each other, they were rough-and-tumble, but ever-so-gentle with the baby.

Scrumptious and precious!

Hope you can use this kit, too. It includes two new word art pieces, for those of you who only come to my blog to get word art. :) AS ALWAYS, PLEASE DO NOT COMMIT PIRACY, OR SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS. Please direct them to this blog instead.

Have a great weekend.

Experimenting

With a bit of apprehension, I'm experimenting with this kit to see if anyone is interested enough in my work to consider it worth paying for. It's strictly on the honor system, so if you don't feel it's worthy, then download anyway. A thank-you is always nice, too!

If you are willing to make a donation, then please click on the Donate button in the far right side of the blog. It would be humbly, greatly appreciated.

This kit, Blossoming, was inspired by some photos I took of tulips in March 2007 at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. They were (as always) breathtakingly beautiful. And I was quite taken with the color combinations. The kit contains: 8 backgrounds, 2 tapes, 3 scalloped discs, 4 folders, 1 border, 1 lace decoration, 1 word art ("Blossoming"; font: MA Sexy) and 2 frames.

Thanks for your support and patronage. I will post some add-on word art tomorrow to match the Blossoming kit.

Until later,
Melanie

It's not an original thought

...but it applies to numerous occasions and life-events.

Today's word art is designed to go with the mini-kit I did for the January DSO Color Challenge hosted by the fabulous KimB. Mine can't hold a candle to others who've already posted their designs, but I enjoy doing it, and always learn something -- which is the whole point of taking part in any challenge!
Here's the download for the mini-kit, which I call Softly January:

Candles at Christmas

Candles at Christmas are wonderful reminders of the Light of the World, whom Christians know as Jesus Christ, the Son of God. No greater gift was given to the world, and there could never be enough candles lit to adequately reflect His glory.

Be safe when you light them, but enjoy their warmth and glow as much as you can.

On a different note, I'm participating again in KimB's color challenge at DSO. I had already decided beforehand that no matter what color palette she chose, I was going to make it a Christmas one. Hope you like it!! I love to participate in these -- just wish I had time to do more; but no one pays you just to play. :)

Blessings to you all,

Melanie

Wise Ones

I wasn't going to have an opportunity to post this kit over the weekend, so am uploading it today. As I was uploading it, I remembered a key element I had planned to prepare, so will add that on Monday! I'm still practicing putting together kits, so please continue to bear with me.

As you gear up for this season of holidays, spending time with family and friends, please remember why we do what we do ... why we have what we have ... why we celebrate His birth.

Have a terrific weekend,
Melanie

November Ivy

Let's see a show of hands for everyone who is ready for November to arrive. Anyone? Anyone?

Me neither!!! The year has zoomed -- everyone is saying it, but it doesn't slow it down any.

However, a new month brings new challenges. And one of the more fun ones is participating in challenges in the digital scrapbooking community.

This not-so-fancy kit was in response to Kim B's Color Challenge at DSO. Here are the downloads for the November Ivy kit:

And a matching word art ... something I love to say to my husband. Blush.

Blessings on your day!

Fall Ball ... New Freebie Kit

Okay, I'm trying again to contribute a full kit to the cause of digital scrapbooking. Please be kind. ;-)

And if you can't be kind, just be honest!!!!!

All joking aside, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I do know this can't possibly compete with the truly great designers, but they've shared so much with all of us.

Enjoy the rest of your day/evening. Thanks for dropping by.

Melanie

Into Each Life

... a little rain must fall, so they say. And I believe that to be true. That's part of the give-and-take, ying and yang, yes and no of life. It's cool how that works, actually. God has a great plan for all of us and no matter how many times we go up and down on the seesaw of life, he keeps us in balance if we let him. I was 40 before I realized how crucial that was -- to achieve, maintain and nurture balance. I can't say that I have totally achieved it yet, but I'm still a work in progress. How about you? :)

Here are the Oh, Petula Part 2 downloads: paper, tag1, tag2, wordart. I'd love to see any layouts in which you may have used this or any part of the kit. See the previous posting for an explanation about the inspiration, if you're interested. For those of you unfamiliar with Petula Clark's body of work, the wordart in this part of the kit is the name of one of her hit songs, "It's a Sign of the Times."

Blessings!

Melanie
