the same things are funny

For those of you in the US, did you have a great Labor Day weekend? My husband had looked forward to it until I got him locked into attending a family function. He loves my family but wanted a break from any MUST DO thing. We were both feelin flu-ish, which didn't help, but the party/shower for my niece and her fiance turned out GREAT. My niece liked the decorations that I had prepared so much that she wants a variation of them for the programs at her wedding in a couple of weeks. I was thrilled...she's such a free spirit, gifted, lovable person and I was delighted to still be able to tune in on her wavelength! Know what I mean?

Laughter is the same way, I think. Shared laughter is such a delightful feeling...and for a moment you are all on the same wavelength, the same plane, the same level of humor that's such a liberating place to be. I had taken some pipe cleaners and those goofy eyes with adhesive backing for the little guys to play with while the gift-opening was going on. They had a blast making spiders and monsters and microphones out of those very inexpensive craft items. One of the 3-year-olds plastered a row of the eyes all along his upper lip like a mustache, with the smaller versions of the eyes spaced on his cheeks and forehead (one errant eye landed on his flip-flops, much to his annoyance). But all of us attending the party laughed aloud when the 6-year-old showed up with a pipecleaner red pointy hat and a white pipecleaner mustache/beard, ho-ho-ho-ing...the bride-to-be and groom-to-be stopped everything to join the laughter and the extra photo ops of these little guys and their antics and we enjoyed that slice-of-life moment equally, from age 3 to 76. Laughter spans generations, which is AMAZING when you think about it. Today's word art reflects that feeling. Hope you can use it!
blessings on your day,

Melanie

Cuddle Buttons

We've been fortunate in my part of Texas to receive rain of some sort every day this week. As I mentioned earlier on Thursday, lightning and thunder accompanied just about every bit of that rain. I'm a creature of the rainy storms, so you won't find me complaining.

What I WILL complain about is the condition of the dogs after they come indoors from frolicking in the rain. ACK!!!!! Last night (in the wee hours) they bounded into our bedroom, basically looking like sheep. They are West Highland WHITE Terriers, but when they start digging around in wet soil, their snouts and feet are black. Sheep, I tell you...sheep! Of course, they want to cuddle with us to get dry.

We have muddy "pounce marks" all over our summertime comforter, which is mostly white. Well, it was.

All four of us did have a cuddle after my husband got up at 3:00 am and gave the dogs a shower.

Speaking of cuddles, we received a wedding invitation in the mail yesterday from my niece, who is getting married in September. It truly seems like just yesterday when I was cuddling that tiny porcelain doll with her dark hair and blue eyes. Her hair frequently changes colors now as she plays with her hairstyles, and her eyes are now that extraordinary color of gray-lavender that reflect the hues of whatever she is wearing. And she is still an absolute doll. Though, for some reason, she'd rather cuddle with her fiance' now. Hmmmmm. Imagine that. LOLOL.

Enjoy your Saturday,
Melanie

hate when this happens!

And another thing ...
I have to confess that a similar affliction occurs when I go to see a film at a movie theater. By the time all the commercials, promos and previews go on, I have to be reminded about what movie I'm there to see! Ever have that happen? :)

Hope you can find fun ways to use this.
All the best,
Melanie

After all these years

Yes, I'm back from my convention. It was exhausting. I was so very fatigued yesterday that I was doing well just to get a word art piece done and posted! I'm planning to do a lot of catching up tomorrow, to formally acknowledge the awards I've received and the extra word art for those who sent the layouts.

In the meantime, I hope you can use today's word art. I've been enjoying listening to the group JOURNEY decades ago. I'm not big into rock music, but somehow always enjoyed most of their music, and missed it when Steve Perry left the group. It's not the same now, but the new guy who joined as lead vocalist (from the Philippines!) is extraordinary and hauntingly similar to Steve Perry. Their newest release is one that I enjoy listening to every day on the radio during my drive time.

All that to say, that those lyrics inspired today's two pieces of word art.

Blessings on your day,
Melanie

A Good Laugh

My sister told me the other day about a voicemail she heard on her cell phone. It was from her newly married son, who is our family's "Mr. Literal." He's extremely smart and has a good sense of humor, but he doesn't always use the right word for the right occasion.

So, back to this voicemail. "Mom, I was just letting you know we were back home and we had a successful honeymoon."

We think he meant that they had a safe trip, but "successful honeymoon" conjures up a whole different ...well, I don't have to spell it out.

We laughed so hard!!! We're planning to put that in their scrapbook, for sure.

Blessings on your day,
Melanie

Everybody Say Amen!

Special thanks to LETTERING DELIGHTS for their oh-so-fun alphabet that I used in this word art (Color Doodles). The font used was Cocktail.

This was inspired this morning by a photo my assistant showed me of her baby granddaughter just laughing for no apparent reason. Don't you love it when they get the giggles??!!! You cannot NOT laugh at those moments. Of course, much more often, I'm laughing at myself for something stupid I did/said. I'm increasingly mangling words -- I'm blaming it on the nearby birthday. Birthdays are the cause for lots of issues, if you ask me!!

Hope you enjoy this!

Blessings,
Melanie

Laughter Through Tears

For those of you who want an actual "quotation," here's a new one for your collection. In our family, we frequently quote movie lines from the film, Steel Magnolias, and others. It's hard not to use them in scrapbooking, too!

Thank-yous are always appreciated.

If not for you ...

Today's word art is in honor of YOU. Yes, all of you who leave me such kind comments, cute notes and terrific anecdotes. It means a lot. This smiling laugh is in your honor.

If not for you, it would be much less joy in the creating process. Thanks!!!!!
Blessings,
Melanie

Sorry I'm Late

For a very important date. Blogging date, that is. I've still been trying to manage a ravaging headache with fever; the doctor gave me new meds today so I thought I'd jot a quick note before they knock me out for the count tonight.

Hope your week is much better than mine has been. Whine whine whine.

The storm all around us tonight, compliments of tropical storms in the Gulf of Mexico, reminded me that I had planned to do more "rainy day" word art for all of you who use it in your scrapping. The Neil Sedaka '70s song from which this lyric came is forever emblazoned in my head. It was so sing-able when it came out -- at least for those of us who liked that sort of music over heavy metal, that is -- and, boy, did I sing it and sing it and sing it. I don't always hear laughter in the rain because more often, I'm hiding behind its veil watching the world go by. But it definitely makes me feel as though it's giving us a second chance, somehow. Renewing the planet, restoring the plants, replenishing the seas. And my spirit, too. DOWNLOAD

Blessings to all of you. It would be nice to hear from you.
